Borrowed Light

While eyes of mourning turned toward Baghdad,
he snatched most-likely photons from the dance—
fizzing with ecstasy, heedless of delay
(enough, at any rate, to burn color into cardboard
and blend sorrow into light)—for that moment
less than none they flash on
to rendezvous.
