The image on the left has been adjusted but hasn't had the Vivid Light Layer added. To the right, a Vivid Light Image Layer was added at 12% Opacity.

In the Layers Pallet, the Painting Layer is a merged Layer; above it is a Layer where lightening was applied via Paint in Modes. At the top, the duplicate Image Layer was added, then the Mode set to Vivid Light and the Opacity reduced to 12%. This adds some contrast and intensity to the image.
